The Indian Super League for 2020-21 will take place in Goa, behind the closed doors. Mrs Nita Ambani, the Founder & Chairperson of Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) announced the news, putting the speculations around ISL 7 to the bed.
Due to ongoing COVID pandemic, there were huge doubts about the tournament. But Goa will now host the season at three different venues – Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim and the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco.
“I am delighted to bring the ISL Season 7 to the state of Goa, from where we had left the action last season. Congratulations to the beautiful state of Goa and their passionate fans of football, as they once again become the epicentre of the beautiful game in India!” said Mrs Ambani.
The detailed schedule for the tournament is yet to be announced. However, the new season is likely to kick-off in November. Along with the FSDL, the Sports Authority of Goa, Goa Football Association and the state government is expected to work hand in hand to follow strict safety precautions to avoid the spread of the virus. All ten ISL clubs will be provided with separate training pitches, confirmed the organizers.
FSDL has also formulated an extensive plan to upgrade all three venues and ten training pitches. Upgradations will be made over next month before handing facilities over to the clubs.
AIFF had also recently announced that all matches of the upcoming I-League season will take place in Kolkata.
ATK Mohun Bagan
The seventh edition of the ISL is expected to be even more interesting after the merger of ATK and Mohun Bagan. One of the oldest clubs in the Indian football, Mohan Bagan joined hands with the most successful ISL club and defending champions ATK.
