Chhangte began his club career with DSK Shivajians, but it was during the 2014-15 I-League U19 season that he made a name for himself. Playing for Liverpool International Football Academy’s DSK Shivajians team, he emerged as the top scorer in the league, netting an impressive 16 goals. His stellar performances helped his team qualify for the final round, where they finished in the 7th position. This remarkable season earned him recognition and caught the attention of scouts and coaches.

Following his standout performances, Chhangte continued to develop his skills and was called up to represent the AIFF in the 2015 Asia U18 Champions Trophy. Although India U19 reached the semi-finals, they faced a tough challenge from Japan’s Kashima Antlers and narrowly missed out on the title.

Chhangte’s talent didn’t go unnoticed, and he was picked by NorthEast United FC for the 2016 Indian Super League season. While his time with the club was brief, it marked his professional debut. He made his presence felt as a substitute in a match against Mumbai City FC.

Chhangte returned to DSK Shivajians for the 2016-17 I-League season. He showcased his ability once again, scoring his debut goal for the club in a match against Mumbai FC. His stint with DSK Shivajians saw him score a total of 11 goals during the season.

In 2017, Chhangte’s career took a significant turn as he was picked by Delhi Dynamos (now Odisha FC) for the 2017-18 Indian Super League season. He made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut match for the club against FC Pune City. Throughout the season, he continued to find the back of the net, ending the campaign with three goals. He remained with the club for the 2018-19 season, where he added more goals to his tally, becoming one of the top Indian goal-scorers of the season.

Chhangte’s international trials and experiences further shaped his career. He had trials with Viking FK, a Norwegian club, which showcased his ambition to play at a higher level. While the move didn’t materialize, it reflected his determination to push his boundaries.

In August 2019, Chhangte joined Chennaiyin FC, where he continued to make waves in the ISL. He played a pivotal role in the 2019-20 season, helping Chennaiyin FC reach the final, although they ultimately finished as runners-up. Chhangte scored seven goals during the season, establishing himself as one of the top Indian talents in the league.

The 2020-21 ISL season saw Chhangte maintain his consistency, contributing with crucial goals for Chennaiyin FC. His performances demonstrated his growth as a player and solidified his reputation as a dynamic forward in Indian football.

He had a loan spell with Mumbai City during the 2021-22 season. In 2022, he permanently joined Mumbai City FC. In the 2022-23 season he scored 18 goals and was the mainstay for the team.
