In the recent 2026 FIFA World Cup second round qualifiers match held on November 16, India earned a 1-0 victory over Kuwait, courtesy of a late goal by Manvir Singh. In the 75th minute, Manvir capitalized on a Lallianzuala Chhangte pass with a skillful left-footed shot, securing the win for India at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium.
Kuwait finished the game with a player short when Faisal Alharbi received his second yellow card during added time, exiting the match due to a high boot challenge on Chhangte.
India’s upcoming match is against Asian champions Qatar on November 21 in Bhubaneswar. In Group A, India competes with Qatar, Kuwait, and Afghanistan, where the top two teams advance to the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Additionally, the top two teams from each group will earn spots in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
The Indian national football team, known as the Blue Tigers, has never progressed to the third round of the AFC’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Despite being ranked 106th globally, India secured a victory over Kuwait (ranked 149th) through a penalty shootout during the SAFF Championships final in July.
