India aims to sustain their victorious run with the ultimate goal of securing the title for the third time. Apart from the forthcoming match, India has reached the final three times, emerging victorious twice under the captaincy of Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. However, during Sourav Ganguly’s leadership in 2003, India faced a comprehensive defeat against the Kangaroos. The upcoming game provides an opportunity for India to rectify the setbacks from their 2003 defeat.
Australia secured a tense three-wicket victory over South Africa in the second semifinal held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Led by Pat Cummins, the Australian side displayed an aggressive approach right from the beginning when South Africa opted to bat. During a crucial phase in the match, South Africa found themselves at 24/4. However, a remarkable century by David Miller (101) and Heinrich Klaasen’s valuable contribution (47) enabled the team to reach a respectable total of 212 on the scoreboard.
